IDE does not open a schematic on clicking 'Open-SCH'!

Yes it could be that you are missing a complete Scheme system needed for Geda scripting.

Try checking with your Package Manager that the following packages are loaded ( Debian Etch packages shown as an example ),

On Debian 4.0 based systems 'guile' amounts to the following (or something fairly close),

guile-1.6_1.6.8-6_i386.deb
guile-1.6-dev_1.6.8-6_i386.deb
guile-g-wrap_1.9.6-3.1_i386.deb
guile-1.6-libs_1.6.8-6_i386.deb
guile-library_0.1.2-1_all.deb
guile-1.6-slib_1.6.8-6_all.deb

IDE still does not open a schematic!

This could be because you have installed the 'Tool Set' from the side4linuxDVD. As this installs only binaries it may be that your distribution contains different libaries from ours. If this is the case then download the 'PCBSsupport' package from the Help front page,

Help>Download Packages locally from DVD>Support

Note: If the link does not open then you may have to adjust your file permissions on the directories in /opt/Side to suit.
Read the installation directions in 'DVDinstallPackages.txt' and install, then try again.
